MS Fram

An Icy Adventure Ahead….

It has been a rollercoaster…. I remember early 2016, sitting with Californian industry colleagues, enjoying an expresso half hour in a Barcelonan café, contemplating a world where the UK could vote for Brexit and the US for Trump. Ha-ha….we laughed at the thought. Surely not…!?

Since then climate chaos has hastened, pandemic ravaged and Russia invaded.

What better then to escape from the madness and seek out the cleansing solace of the pure Arctic?

We had previously voyaged with Hurtigruten on the Norwegian coastal route Bergen to Kirkenes – there and back, and enjoyed the experiences of the sailing and port calls of, what is a busy port to port ferry. We had also enjoyed a fantastic sailing to Antarctica with Polar Latitudes on the lovely ship Hebridean Sky.

So, we are full of anticipation of the joys of a 19 day sailing, with the promise to navigate the famous Northwest Passage – the fabled route to connect the Atlantic to the Pacific, without braving the fearsome Cape Horn.

Tomorrow we’ll be lugging our luggage, filled to the brim with fleeces, ski pants, thermal underwear and hiking shoes (we’ll be wearing the hiking boots – far too heavy to carry!), through the London Underground to reach Heathrow Airport, terminal 2, for our Icelandair ‘plane to carry us to Reykjavik and MS Fram, our ship of abode for the next 19 days.

Northwest Passage, Day -1
